Another year goes by, another semester is finished and BEST Porto brings what you need to unwind from your classes' stress, receive 1.5 ECTS, develop soft skills and have fun with your friends during 24 hours with EBEC.

Innovative Design

Participants will have 24 hours to build a prototype, using materials of various kinds, which can respond in an appropriate manner to the requirements and tests of a presented problem.

Case Study

Teams have the opportunity to analyze and solve theoretical cases based on real scenarios, having to present a solution in 24 hours. To do this, teams can use various means of research and creativity.

About EBEC

When?
From 14th to the 16th of March of 2026, with mandatory training sessions in the week before.

You can sign up until the 1st of March on our website. The registrations priority will be considered according to the arrival order and team size.

The event will start at 14:30, on the 14th of March, with the reception of the participants and the opening ceremony. The real competition will start at 17:30, 14th of March and will end at 17:30, 15th of March (24 hours later). The presentations will take place on the 16th of March, when each group will have to present their work to the jury, before the closing ceremony.

During the competition, participants may only leave the venue in corridor B to go to the canteen for dinner on the 14th, when instructed by the organization. Any other type of exit will not be permitted. But you can always ask to a organizer to see if they can let you.

Each team consists of 4 members. However, you can register individually or in groups of 2 or 3. The organization will complete the team by adding the remaining members later on.

Nonetheless be aware that complete registrations have priority in filling vacancies.

For this competition, you just need to enjoy working in a team, and be interested in challenges! As long as you bring your critical spirit and the will to spend a fun weekend with your friends,you don't need anything else! But before the competition, you'll receive training in the necessary skills to ensure you know everything you need to face the challenges.

Yes, BEST Porto ensures all your meals during the 24 hours of competition (Saturday's dinner and Sunday's lunch). In addition, there will be coffee breaks available throughout the weekend. Please note that if you wish to have access to energy drinks or specific snacks during the competition, you must bring them at the beginning, as no exits are permitted during the competition.

No, you only have to leave a deposit of €6 per person. If you comply with all the stipulated rules in the regulations and fill out the feedback, this deposit will be returned to you after the competition.

Sure! Any students from FEUP or FCUP can participate in EBEC, no matter what year or course they are in.

Yes, the University of Porto has accredited EBEC since 2013/14 with 1.5 ECTS to all the participants that have complied with the requirements. Only the first participation in each of the modalities will be credited, meaning if you already received credits for one modality, it's time to try a new one! It's up to your course's director to decide whether or not to accept these credits.

To access the credits you will have to: be present during the entire event, have a positive performance in the competition and comply with the Regulations.

Yes, each team will have 24 hours to resolve the challenge. Beyond these 24 hours, there will also be other moments of mandatory presence such as the Opening Ceremony, the Closing Ceremony, and networking and training sessions that will take place during the week prior to the competition

Each modality will have a dedicated jury panel that, alongside the organization, will be responsible for the evaluation of your team's solution. Your final grades and the competition's winners will be based on this evaluation.

It is up to the organization of the event to deliver each jury member a grid with the parameters of evaluation and a listing of all teams in the competition, in order to facilitate the determination of the winners and the final grades.

If you have to miss classes to participate in the event, BEST Porto will justify your absence (except for the networking session). If you are in this situation, please ask an organizer for this justification at the end of the competition.

The challenge will be presented during the Opening Session. Any questions will be clarified by the topic responsibles, who will remain available throughout the competition.

During the competition you will not be able to leave the venue of the event. If you happen to have to leave, you will need a valid justification and authorization by a member of the organization. If you are in this situation, please ask an organizer and your situation will be taken into account by the organization.

Participants will have access to the internet and must carry at least one computer per team.

In the event that some team member does not comply with the rules presented in the regulation, your team will be disqualified and will lose the deposit and accreditation.

If the team isn't able to attend the presentation of their project, the appropriate penalty will be decided by the members of the jury.

Each team is responsible for maintaining their workspace clean and in the condition in which it was found. Violation of this rule results in the loss of the caution.
